Literature
The library maintains a collection of books for all ages and interests. We strive to offer a diversity of subjects and formats to our patrons such as novels, references, genealogy and Pennsylvania history, arts and crafts, and much more. If we don’t have what you are looking for, ask us! It may be possible to order it or request it from another library through our Interlibrary Loan service.
Entertainment
Hundreds of movies and audio books are available to our patrons. We know that learning and entertainment can come from multiple sources and promote all forms of media.
Periodicals
Periodicals, daily newspapers and magazines are provided to the public as sources of news and information. The library also has microfilm of the Milton Standard / Miltonian newspaper dating back to 1816.
Online Resources
It is our goal for the library and patrons to stay on the forefront of technology. To that end, patrons have free access to a plethora of applications and websites including Ancestry.com, Lingo Lite, Overdrive and Tumblebooks.
Internet
Internet access is available via public computers and free wi-fi. Patrons are welcome to schedule one-on-one time with our staff if they need computer help or advice.
Printing and Fax
Patrons and guests can print and copy pages (.25 per Black & White page / .50 per Color page), send or receive faxes (1.00 per page) and even scan documents to email addresses (free).
Youth Programs
Numerous programs and activities for children and teens are offered at the library. Story times are available for children throughout the week, with Science and Craft workshops and Book Clubs happening throughout the month. Our Summer Reading Program features a variety of events and activities for your family during summer vacation.
Adult Programs
Programs for adults including weekly Mah Jongg games, and seasonal programs like Book Bingo. The library also hosts various workshops such as an Alzheimer’s Family Workshop, Hunter Safety Course, and Author Visits.
Gift Programs
Adopt-a-Book, Gift, and Memorial Programs are available which allow patrons to support the library by gifting books. A commemorative plate is added to the selected item to honor a person or group.
Tax Forms
The government provides us with Federal tax forms to distribute to the public during tax season.
Note: Our staff is neither trained nor liable to assist our patrons with the completion or filing of tax forms, but we may direct you a business or specialist that provides those services.
Interlibrary Loans
The Milton Public Library offers an interlibrary loan service to request books not available in our collection. ILL request slips are available in the library at the front desk, with requests typically taking several days to a few weeks (depending on availability).
Genealogy Research
The library has microfilm copies of our local newspaper which date back 200 years, as well as local cemetery records. Our microfilm machine can be used to research obituaries, newspaper articles, and local history – and it’s open to the public during library hours. Pages can be printed ($0.25 each) or saved locally to a USB device. Please speak to a librarian if you need assistance with the machine operations. The library also accepts research requests from non-residents and can forward scanned pages by email. As all microfilm searches are performed manually, there is no set time on when such requests will be completed and no guarantee that all information can be located. Inquiries can be made to staff@miltonpalibrary.org or director@miltonpalibrary.org.
